December 2019 - Ideas come from curiosity

Our family took our first Disneyland vacation since my partner was diagnosed with celiac disease. Disneyland Resort did an outstanding job accommodating our dietary needs, but the lack of a robust meal planning tool meant we still experienced a lot of food stress while and lost valuable park during our visit.

On the way home the initial concept was developed for a website to curate gluten-friendly dining information for the Disneyland Resort.

January 2020 - #100DaysOfCode

Glutenfree-Land began life as a #100DaysOfCode project to learn Ruby on Rails.

February 2020 - Glutenfree-Land becomes the Friendliest.app

The project scope increased...considerably. We quickly expanded from just gluten-friendly options to include all of the top 8 food allergens. And we started roadmapping additional functionality, like creating and sharing meal lists, the ability to like and comment on restaurants and meals and matching meals to your dietary needs.

The project also received a new name - The Friendliest.app, your allergy-friendly companion to the Happiest Place on Earth.

March 2020 - COVID 19

COVID-19 stopped the world, including the Disneyland Resort and active development on the Friendliest.app.

November 2020 - Welcome back Downtown Disney

Downtown Disney District reoponed with limited shopping and food options. The Friendliest.app development also resumed in a limited fashion.

March 2021 - Light at the end of the tunnel

California announced theme parks could reopen with restrictions starting April 1st. Development of the Friendliest.app ramped back up. Our goal was to have the app in public beta before Disneyland reopened on April 30th.

April 2021 - Public beta - we made it!

One week before the Disneyland Resort theme parks were set to reopen, the Friendliest.app launched its public beta, completely free to celebrate the occasion.
